Oral Tablet
Veterinary Anthelmintic
COMPOSITION
It is a yellow colored tablet with two break points containing 300 mg praziquantel per tablet.
PHARMACOLOGICAL PROPERTIES
Şeritab Oral Tablet contains praziquantel, an isoquinoleine derivative antihelminthic. Praziquantel is a broad-spectrum cestocidal antihelminthic specific to tapeworms. Praziquantel disrupts the tapeworm's membrane permeability, blocking glucose uptake and depleting its energy reserves, leading to the parasite's death. Within a few seconds of contact with praziquantel, intense spasms and contractions occur in the segments of the tapeworm, disrupting the function of the hooks embedded in the intestine, and the scolex leaves the mucosa and becomes paralyzed.
After administration, the product is largely absorbed from the stomach and intestine, reaching maximum serum levels within 30 minutes to 4 hours. It localizes in organs such as the liver and kidneys. The serum half-life is 4 hours, and excretion occurs mainly in the urine and, to a lesser extent, in the feces. Prazikuantel is completely eliminated from the body 8-10 hours after administration. Prazikuantel does not bind irreversibly to body tissues.
AREA OF USE / INDICATIONS
It is used for the treatment of Taeniasis in sheep, horse and dog.
Sheep; Moniezia expansa, M. benedeni, Thysaniezia ovilla, Avitellina centripunctata, Stilesia globipunctata and S. hepatica (bile duct strip),
Horse; intestinal segments Anaplocephala sp. and Anaplocephaloides mamillana,
Dog; It exhibits potent anthelmintic activity against cestodes of the species Echinococcus granulosus, E. multilocularis, Diphylidium caninum, Taenia ovis, Taenia psiformis, T. hydatigena, Multiceps multiceps, Mesocestoides sp. and T. reniformis.
Since Şeritab Oral Tablet is effective against adult tapeworms, juveniles, and scolex, it is suitable for total tapeworm eradication. Şeritab Oral Tablet is used to eliminate clinical signs of chronic Coenurus cerebralis in sheep.
USAGE AND DOSAGE
The pharmacological dose of Şeritab Oral Tablet required for the elimination of young and adult tapeworms is 15 mg praziquantel/kg body weight in sheep, 1 mg/kg b.w. in horses, and 5-10 mg/kg b.w. in dogs. The tablets can be divided in half for administration. In cases of delibaş disease (Coenurus cerebralis) and against peritoneal cysticercos (Cysticercus tenuicollis), administering 50-100 mg/kg bw for 2-5 consecutive days reduces the symptoms of chronic Coenurus cerebralis.

SPECIAL CLINICAL INFORMATION AND SPECIAL WARNINGS FOR TARGET SPECIES
Because of the mechanism of action of praziquantel (depolarization, contraction, vacuolization, and shortening of the tapeworm), it is not always possible to see the tapeworms intact in the stool after administration of the Şeritab Oral Tablet. As a result of partial fragmentation and absorption of the tapeworms in the intestines, they may appear dissolved (like a thread or membrane), bead-like, or capsule-like, especially in hard stools. There is no need to any special diet on animals before using the Şeritab Oral Tablet or to use a purgative after treatment. Praziquantel is an antihelminthic with a high safety margin. It has not caused any side effects even at doses of 100-150 mg/kg in sheep. Sheep act as intermediate hosts for the larval forms (Coenurus cerebralis (delibaş disease) and Cysticercus tenuicollis) of the tapeworms Multiceps multiceps and Taenia hydatigena found in dogs. Therefore, it is important to treat dogs for tapeworms.
ADVERSE EFFECTS
In rare cases, abdominal pain, loss of appetite, nausea, vomiting, or diarrhea may occur.
DRUG INTERACTIONS
When used simultaneously with dexamethasone, the plasma concentration of praziquantel is reduced by half.
SYMPTOMS OF OVERDOSE, PRECAUTIONS AND ANTIDOTE
Tremors and convulsions may be observed in cases of overdose.
Symptomatic treatment should be administered. There is no specific antidote.
